my last reblog actually reminds me of my last Women’s Studies class. Everyone was discussing Gloria Anzaldúa and talking about machismo (except the prof was pronouncing is ma-kis-mo not ma-chis-mo). It made me so mad. I felt like my culture was being appropriated and all these White women were making comments on Spanish/Latinas/Latinos/Machismo and they HAD NO IDEA. When the prof can’t even correctly pronounce a cultural term… probably a good indication that she shouldn’t be teaching it. Also, I hate when people decide to talk about shit like they know/have experienced it when they have NO CLUE. Fall back. Hands off my identity.
p.s. let’s talk about the history of colonization/imperialism that has instilled and perpetuated racism/sexism in Latin American communities. Trijullo/Blanquismo? Oh, waddup Whiteness/White Institutional Power? Let me call you out real quick.
